Bluewater Dx utilizes several routine clinical chemistry methodologies
to provide results for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Often involving
the measurement of enzymatic activity, these tests analyze various components
of both urine and blood specimens. Routine chemistry testing is an important
diagnostic tool for several medical specialties, such as endocrinology
and immunology.
A few of the testing methodologies utilized in our chemistry department include:
- Colorimetric assay: These tests use reagents that undergo a measurable
color change via enzymatic activity when in the presence of the target
of interest.
- Turbidimetric assay: These tests use reagents that alter light detection
in a cuvette when exposed to the target compound of interest.
- Electrochemiluminescence assay: These electrochemical reactions usually
involve fluorescently-labeled antibodies that bind to the target of interest,
to produce a detectable light emission.
